Quick Guide: Setting Up a Steering Profile in Netskope

A step-by-step guide to directing user traffic through the Netskope Security Cloud

Overview

steering profile in the Netskope platform defines how user or device traffic is routed to the Netskope Security Cloud. This configuration is essential for enabling inline security controls and ensuring consistent policy enforcement across your environment.

Configuration Steps

  1. Access the Netskope Admin Console
Log in to your Netskope tenant using administrative credentials.

  2. Navigate to Steering Configuration
From the main menu, go to:
Settings → Security Cloud Platform → Steering Configuration

  3. Create a New Steering Profile
    Select New Steering Profile.
Provide a clear and descriptive name for the profile, along with an optional description to indicate its purpose or scope.

  4. Select the Steering Method
Choose the appropriate method for routing traffic:

    • Netskope Client – for endpoint-based traffic steering
    • IPSec or GRE – for network-level tunneling
    • Explicit Proxy – for browser-based redirection
    • API Connector – for application-level integrations
  5. Configure Profile Parameters
Based on the selected method, complete the required configuration:

    • For Netskope Client: define supported operating systems, gateway preferences, and fallback behavior.
    • For IPSec/GRE: specify tunnel endpoints, routing rules, and authentication details.
    • For Explicit Proxy: enter proxy server settings and PAC file URLs.
  6. Assign the Profile
Determine the target audience for the profile—this may include specific users, user groups, or devices. Assignment can be performed manually or via directory integration.

  7. Save and Deploy the Profile
Click Save to finalize the configuration. The profile will be deployed and applied to the designated users or devices.

Additional Considerations

  • Multiple steering profiles can be created to accommodate different user groups, locations, or use cases.
  • Profiles can be modified or removed at any time through the admin console.
  • If using the Netskope Client, ensure it is properly installed and operational on all relevant endpoints.
